An 11-year-old girl who threw a stone at a group of
boys pelting her with water balloons is being prosecuted on serious
assault charges in California.

...

"The confrontation happened in a poor district of Fresno, in central California, where Maribel Cuevas lives with her Spanish-speaking family.

The girl, who speaks little English, has admitted throwing a stone at a group of boys she says were pestering her with water balloons as she walked down the street.

An ambulance was called, but arrived flanked by three police patrol vehicles. A helicopter meanwhile hovered overhead.

The 11-year-old was then read her rights twice in English before being detained. (note: earlier in the article, they mention her family speaks spanish, and she has limited English skills)

"We responded. We determined a felony assault had taken place and the officers took the actions that were necessary," said Fresno Police Sergeant Anthony Martinez.

Another police officer told ABC News that the girl, when asked what she thought would happen if she threw the stone, replied that it would make him "bleed"."

Why does this not surprise me?

"Londoners, who bore the brunt of last Thursday’s carnage, were not as supportive of draconian measures as people in the rest of the country."

Just like New York who wants to be left alone and to get rid of big bro (in general, of course), and the fucking rednecks who have the slightest fucking chance of having jackshit done to them want more of it.

god.

Fingernail data storage
Researchers from Tokushima University in Japan demonstrated that data can be stored in a human fingernail. The data is "written" onto the nail with femtosecond laser pulses and read using a fluorescence microscope. In experiments on a clipped piece of nail, each "bit" of data is 3.1 microns in diameter and 5 microns apart from its closest neighboring bit. The system records in three layers at depths of 40, 60, and 80 microns. (A human hair is around 100 microns thick.) From Optics.org:

Capacities are said to be up to 5 mega bits and the stored data lasts for 6 months - the length of time it takes a fingernail to be completely replaced.

"I don't like carrying around a large number of cards, money and papers," (Yoshio) Hayasaki from Tokushima University told Optics.org. "I think that a key application will be personal authentication. Data stored in a fingernail can be used with biometrics, such as fingerprint authentication and intravenous authentication of the finger..."

Although the initial experiments have concentrated on small pieces of nail, the team is now developing a system that can write data to a fingernail which is still attached to a finger. "We will develop a femtosecond laser processing system that can record the data at the desired points with compensation for the movement of a finger," said Hayasaki.
Is of a modern, United States poster... It's quite similar to those old soviet "spy on your neighbor" type things.

Big brother is here, and he's on the subway...

Fucking hypocrite xian republicans... or not.

maybe they're just trying to hasten the return of Jesus, I dunno. Ron Paul is one of the few damned Republicans I respect, and thankfully he voted against this. Of course Tammy Baldwin(my rep) and Kucinich voted against it.

National ID, here it is. If you want public transport(interstate, I'm assuming) or access to federal courthouses, parks, etc... You need to get a card that will have "machine-readable" information in it. It's ill-defined. Perhaps it's a magnetic stripe, perhaps it's RFID tags(which can be read from a distance). If it's a stripe, I don't have quite as much of a problem, I still don't like it, but if it's RFID, and can be read while in my pocket, I have a HUGE problem with it.

Are you fucking ready? I mean, really ready? Because the shit is just gonna pile deeper and faster. I'll have to post on the blog(which, I've mentioned before, and you should add http://symbioid.blogspot.com ) my thoughts on the decline and how we need to hasten it.

Of course, it just HAD to be James Sensenbrenner, from Wisconsin, that introduced this. urgh.

The U.S. House of Representatives approved on Thursday a sweeping set of rules aimed at forcing states to issue all adults federally approved electronic ID cards, including driver's licenses.

Under the rules, federal employees would reject licenses or identity cards that don't comply, which could curb Americans' access to airplanes, trains, national parks, federal courthouses and other areas controlled by the federal government. The bill was approved by a 261-161 vote.

The measure, called the Real ID Act, says that driver's licenses and other ID cards must include a digital photograph, anticounterfeiting features and undefined "machine-readable technology, with defined minimum data elements" that could include a magnetic strip or RFID tag. The Department of Homeland Security would be charged with drafting the details of the regulation.
