I predict that there will be another terrorist attack, and probably in the not too distant future. Not that there will be a "lapse" of security(I still believe the jury's out on 9-11 in terms of what was known, and what actions were taken in order to prevent it), but rather, the "lapse" of security will instead be an intentional non-act by the powers-that-be. Conspiratorial you say? Yeah, I guess you could say that. Am I afraid/concerned/frightened? No. Fear is what gives them power. Them meaning both the "evil-ones" terrorists and the "holy-crusaders" terrorists.

Why do I say this? The war must continue on for the next decade. It was declared so at the beginning to be a very long war, we must show our "national resolve"... So the media and propaganda machine simply cannot let us forget the horrors that those wacky Fundy Muslims perpetrated... But it's happening already. It's true that everywhere I go I still see the fucking flag on every other fucking car out there(and this is in the liberal bastion of Madison! I don't even wanna think what it's like out in hickville...), but the zeitgeist is fading into the frigid air of yore. The war is indeed going to be covert. Does anyone believe that the disinformation campaign that was halted at the pentagon is actually halted? Of course not. The function was distributed to some other agency. It happens all the time anyways. I'm not trying to say things are bleak or bright. No value judgements here. Just a simple belief that there will be another attack someday. The credibility of the intelligence agencies are at stake if it happens, but the long term goal must be taken into account. And all that has to happen is a "congressional inquiry" into the failure of the intelligence community to prevent another attack. Maybe someone will be a scapegoat. And that's that, they'll get more funding, and life goes on. Ob-la-di, ob-la-da...

The 16 Nuclear Crises of the Cold War

This is a nice little page with information on the 16 different times when there was a threat of nuclear weapons use... A chart including the name, year, length, who threatened to use the nukes, and number of strategic weapons owned by the US and USSR... Also more detailed explanation of events.

So, out of 16, guess who threated to use Nukes 14 times? You guessed it! The unimposing United States of America.

Heh. That's just one more little fact you can throw at people when they ask why other countries think we're such a nasty nation...

They did it! Those fucking bastards at the Libertarian Party are running two full page ads about the drug war/war on terrorism connection. And yes, my friends, it is fucking Sweee-eee-eeet! Essentially, they're saying what should be shouted loud and clear across every fucking TV screen in the US. That it's not the people that are using drugs that are helping terrorism, but those asshole politicos and enforcers who are complicit with the "terrorists" When I first heard of the ONDCP ads(first aired on the Superbowl), I was furious, and thought that someone should do EXACTLY what the LP is doing right now. USA Today, and the Washington Times are the two papers it's gonna be in. For more info. (along with an image of the ad... ) Go to the LP site Also, if you go to dancesafe.org(which is where I heard of this), you can download a .pdf of the full size ad! :)

Thought about ownership of the airwaves today. The idea that individuals, corporations or government entities can claim a specific Electromagnetic frequency to propagate information.

Radio waves are part of the electromagnetic spectrum, this includes TV signals and shortwave as well. Next are microwaves/radar, then light(infrared, white light, ultraviolet), X-rays and finally Gamma-rays.

Now here's what's fucked up. We assume that we can "sell" a specific frequency to someone. The idea being that this allows them to transmit the information of their choosing(subject to certain restrictions, of course...) But a radio/tv frequency is really not much different from a color. Red, for instance is approximately 700 nanometers in length... As far as I know, you can't encode information in "red"/700 nanometer wavelengths, but I'm just making an assumption... So, theoretically, let's assume that you just increase the frequencies you sell off to certain entities until it hit's that wavelength. What happens? Does Clear Channel now own the rights to a specific color of red? Can they charge manufacturers of red balloons an intellectual property fee for infringing on their ownership of that color of red? Where, exactly do we or should we draw the line on this?

I know, I'm being pretty stupid in the long run, but just another wacky thought spewing forth into the aether.
"How dare Senator Daschle criticize President Bush while we are fighting our war on terrorism, especially when we have troops in the field," said Senate Minority Leader Trent Lott, R-Miss., in a written statement. "He should not be trying to divide our country while we are united."
