So, I've got it a bit more refined(my site that is)... it's still in the test phases at this point. I used the W3C CSS validator, and got my css code correct(it wasn't working in mozilla 1.0, so it's nice to have mozilla be a browser that'll kick my ass if it's not working right) Anyways, if anyone is interested in seeing the latest work on it. I've got a new setup for MUSE(the database) The search is still very basic, and not very refined, and eventually that'll probably be one of the next projects. But the list is cool, and what I got done... I set up a basic artist list(like I had before), only now it's in php, and automatically reads the db... and the genre list shows each genre,a count, and opens a new php page that'll list the genre you clicked on.

Initially I was gonna create a separate page for each genre(ie: idm.html), etc.. and put in separate code for each one that loads the respective genre, but then I realized how stupid and redundant that was to do such a thing... I have PHP, why not pass a value to PHP? And I asked comp.lang.php how to pass a value in an href, and got some feedback and BAM!

As some dead guy said 2000 years ago...

it is finished Well of course, not quite, but the genre list and proper CSS is.

Its strange you mention mozilla being picky with CSS. I've never noticed it before. In fact I've found it more forgiving than IE. For example some of the older IE versions won't allow you to page break after or before an element which has no content, while Mozilla will.

Maybe its just that I've always referred to the W3C CSS2 spec, and so learning from this I've avoided all the pitfalls others have. I still have to admit though, borders are still a hassle at times. setting a TD style of 1px solid #000000 around each cell results in a 2 pixel thick black border. To get a true 1 pixel border for each cell you would have to do something like:

Although this can be done using COL ID= and some fancy style sheets.

Ultimately though its still eminently satisfying getting proper CSS working and looking as the page should. Wouldn't you agree?

of course I forgot to add cellpadding to that example. The real table would look like this:
