So I spent a little money the past couple days. I picked up "The Shifting Realities of Philip K. Dick (Selected Literary and Philosophical Writings)" It includes some excerpts of his fabled Exegesis, and other religious writings as well as analyses of his work and some autobiographical info as well. Very interesting read. And somehow, he just manages to suck you right into his world and you believe that it could be true. Very interesting indeed. I still would love to see the Exegesis in complete form, though.
I also picked up "The Gentle Giant" by Yusef Lateef and "Big Loada" by Squarepusher. Of course, I've heard Big Loada before, just never got it burned from Tony and since my burner is down, and I've been meaning to get it, I figured why not buy it now... And Yusef Lateef is a god. I just love that fucking soft mellow flute jazz. Just totally makes you feel at peace.
And then today... I've been saving for a while and trying to make sure I have cash in the bank, and it was on sale for 30 bucks off, so I picked it up(next week the sale would've been over, and I was planning on getting it next week anyways)... The Korg EM-1. It's a basic drum machine with like 8 drum parts, and 2 synth parts per pattern. It's not quite everything I had hoped, but it's still solid. For instance, the biggest problem is that the effects section is applied to all the parts with effects, and therefore, I can only have say distorition or flange active, and it has to be used through all the sounds I want effects on. I can choose to have no effects on some parts, but I can't choose to have multiple effects on one part, nor can I have different effects on different parts. This is a limitation I'm not very happy about, but I still can do some decent shit with it. Once I get to work with Tony I'm sure we'll have some very good shit going on. Plus I can hook up to his Roland XP-50 and use it as a keyboard interface... Once I get my new computer I plan on using Cubase to sequence shit, as well. But I should just start to work and learn on the EM1 primarily at this point and learn it's ins and outs...
