Doing my first "real" cooking today in a loooong time.
Chicken Vindaloo. Simmering right now on the stove, 10 minutes and I should be good to go.
I defrosted the chicken in the mic (didn't completely thaw though :( )
I browned it on the stovetop, then took my non-real-cooked vindaloo sauce (that is, I bought a jar in the store, didn't make it from scratch) and am simmering it.
I made sure the chicken was white all the way through as I learned from watching a videojug tutorial on cooking chicken... The sauce said to just simmer the chicken in the sauce (i.e. don't cook it beforehand) but I'm not too sure about my cooking skills and better safe then sorry, hence my pre-cooking before the simmer.
I have some microwavable rice (pop the bag in for a minute and it's cooked), so I'm cheating on that front too. But hey, thawing meat and cooking it over the stovetop and simmering in sauce is as close as I've gotten to cooking in ages.
I hope it tastes good. Wish me luck!

Date: 2007-07-22 10:10 pm (UTC)I am glad your Vindaloo came out ok, but I want you to know that to have done it from scratch would have been barely more hassle and far more tasty and rewarding.
I wqll come to you with some super-ez recipes that have no jarred sauces or mikerwaves involved in the process.

Date: 2007-07-22 10:26 pm (UTC)Hopefully I get more into the swing of cooking and can do it from scratch. It's just a matter of learning techniques and the processes. But yeah, if you've got recipes (indian or otherwise) feel free to share :)
But I'm not gonna promise I won't use the mic ever again. It's too damned easy.

Date: 2007-07-22 11:10 pm (UTC)I did use rice with it, so it's kinda overboard to have rice and potatoes (too much starch)...
But, I also used chicken and that's also "wrong". So, potatoes would be good. I just don't have any. I did a quick pickup while at the store, not really putting effort into it.
Maybe I should make a vindaloo shake?
