So, my niece graduated high school. They had graduation on friday night at 8pm.
sophy and I got up and began the trek to the U.P. (Escanaba to be precise). A 4 hour drive made 5 hours by rest-stops and food-stops.
Oh, that "eh?" part on my title? It's part of the Yooper dialect. For those not familiar with it...
We got there in time for setting in and then heading to dinner.
sophy stayed at the motel during the ceremony due to her fibromyalgia. I went to the ceremony and was fine, until I sat in the bleachers. Then it got hotter and hotter. Too many people. Well, guess who happened to have a panic attack. I told my sister I had to go, that I couldn't do it. I ended up leaving before the ceremony started. It took me 5 minutes to get to breathing normally before I could start the car to drive back to the motel.
Later, people came back. We were going to go to my nephews, but my sister knocked on the door and told me she was going to her old coffeeshop hangout. Mom and dad drove her there. On the way, I guess, my mom told her not to stay out too late (my sister has fibro along with other issues...) Holly (my sister) told my mom "I'm not 5 years old you know" (my sister is 44... I'll have to tell you about her travails later) Anyways, she told Rose (sophy) that my dad pulled the car over and yelled at her telling her not to talk to my mother that way...
So yeah, family drama.
Anyways, my nephew, Tim and his girlfriend Jenny came to our room and hung out with me and Rose. It was nice to hear him say that I had been a positive influence in his life. I think I want to see "The Descent" due to their comments on the movie.
He also was talking about how redneck his dad is. Apparently his dad wanted to pay for Tim to paint his car in Camouflage. Yea, you read that right. Tim said "why don't you give me the money so I can put it towards a better car?"
Anyways, the next day we went out and went to the park a little bit with Tim and Rachael (my niece)... Hung out at Tim's place a bit, and my folks and Holly left for their home (in Algoma... near Door County). Rose and I stayed and ended up playing youtube clips with Tim and Rachael.
I tried to encourage Rach to go into science/math (she said that's her strong subject) and that we need more women in the sciences. So hopefully she continues to pursue that. I saw a pic of her boyfriend, and he is sufficiently geeky looking enough for me :)
Anyways, my sister told Rose that she's been diagnosed with BPD, which makes perfect sense. It's what's so sad and tragic about her. Anyways, the previous night, Tim and Jenny and Rose and I were talking about Rachael's understanding of how her mom is fucked up, and how it took her living away from Holly to see that she's not normal and didn't have a normal mom). I had gotten the feeling the past couple years that Rachael was getting quite annoyed with Holly, and I tried to give reassuring/sympathetic glances to Rachael when I could just so she knew she wasn't alone, and that we understood her pain.
Anyways, yeah. So, the weekend ended, and it was quite nice. I found out it's gonna cost 450 to fix my A/C in the car ( I though I just needed freon) so I can't afford that now :(
One the way back home, I was flying, and got one county away from home, when, as I'm driving at 78mph (remember, our speed limit is 65), I see a car flying up on me. Shit I say... It's a cop. He didn't have his lights on. I slowed down and when he caught up to me, I was doing 65. I was nervous. Do I go to the slow lane? Stay here? He didn't have his lights on... Finally, he flipped them.
I pulled over.
"How's it going, bud?" he asks
"alright"
"I pulled you over because you were going 78 in a 65"
"yeah" I say... mildly apologetic, acknowledging that fact, and not getting defensive.
after him asking where I was coming from and if I have any traffic violations, he took my license.
I noted that I only had maybe a headlight violation. No moving violations in 10 years.
He comes back. "I'm going to give you a written warning... "
HOLY FUCK! Yes, you read that right. I got a written warning for going 13 mph over. Not too bad. We were also worried, because Rose dislikes wearing the shoulder strap on the seatbelt. So she puts the belt on (my insistence) and then flips the shoulder strap behind her. It's our compromise. Not the best, but better than nothing.
Anyways, we were worried he was gonna lecture us. But he let that pass.
So I lucked out there.
Finally... I leveled up Symbioid (my Tauren hunter) to 64, my Troll Shammy (Garnok) is 57 and I got my pally 2 levels higher to 14. So it was a good WoW weekend. The grind for Garnok was a real fucking pain though. Ugh.
Speaking of WoW. back I go!

Date: 2007-05-30 01:37 am (UTC)In Lock Haven, where I attended college in central Pennsylvania, there was some goofball redneck who painted a Gremlin - yes, can you even remember those fucked-up looking cars, along with the old Pacer? - in camouflage and put it up on huge-ass monster-truck wheels. It was a conversation piece throughout the town for many, many years.
It just goes to show that rednecks... is sooooo stupid.

Date: 2007-05-30 01:40 am (UTC)Yeah, that was my nephew and his dad.
I remember one time, walking along with a couple friends. One said "haha... look at that camo jeep!" the other one said "where?"
But the monster truck wheels beats all! Camozilla.

Date: 2007-05-30 12:40 pm (UTC)BPD--that's a rough one, as Rosemary can tell you, I know whereof I speak.
And...speaking as your "mother-in-heart"--with the voice of authority--no more driving that fast!! You two are both too valuable and important to me, so I'm being selfish here, to take that kind of chances on the road!! I'm glad you didn't get a ticket, though.
