I wake up this morning, and there's a terrible buzzing going on. It was drowned out by the AC sound (hmmm... I think our AC is too loud... it's been louder this year than last, I think, anyways)...

I get ready for work, and as I head into the living room, [livejournal.com profile] sophy asked me what that noise was. I told her I thought it might be my speakers on my computer. Sure as shit, the subwoofer has this buzzy sound. I turned it off, and it stopped.

I'm not sure what caused it. I think it was going all night, because after I went to bed, I heard this weird noise, and got a bit freaked, thinking maybe someone was breaking into the house, but Cleo seemed to not care (and trust me, if someone broke in, she would be up and running to the closet to hide). So I let it slide.

I have a fuse on the front. I guess I'll pop that out and look to see if that is what happened. But shouldn't a burnt fuse just stop working altogether? Fortunately, I mostly use headphones to listen to the computer when I do, so it's not much of a loss, but every once in a while I use my speakers. Oh well. :(

Sounds like a bad ground, actually, like it isn't quite plugged in all the way. That's the most common.

Now that you mention it, that sounds like the most likely culprit. It did have that weird buzzing, ungrounded guitar sound, but much deeper (being a subwoofer) and louder. I don't know how that happened in the middle of the night. Thanks for the tip, I'll muck around with it tonight.
