Lest anyone think I'm a complete pessimist and completely hate my life or the fact that I live in the corporate whoredom of the USA, let me state some of my positive viewpoints.
1) I AM thankful that I don't have to wake up to the sound of gunshots ringing in the streets every day, or that my family/friends are murdered, raped, or kidnapped that's so common in civil war/strife...
2) I hate capitalism as a system, but I do like having some of the choices. Even if they are partially hydrogenated, stuffed with nasty-ass chemicals and come from factory farms.(OK OK, I said positive)
3) I like having the bit of speech that I am allowed. That, even though it's pretty bad(in terms of media ownership issues), we still have the right to get out and protest and make our voices heard that way... ok, positive positive. It's so hard for me not to put qualifiers on.
4) For the most part, we are a pretty tolerant nation. Once in a while(ie: post 9-11, WW2, etc...), we have fucking morons acting out their idiocy, and perpin' hate-crimes. But we have churches, mosques, temples, pagans free to be pagans, satanists can practice their beliefs even.
5) There is still a chance to fight for change for the better. We haven't reached fascism yet.
6) This goes, of course without talking about standard life things that everyone in the world has like friends, family, etc... ok not everyone in the world, but most people...
7) Yes, I like my X-box.
8) Autechre exists.
9) That I have full use of my faculties, sensory organs, and am fairly healthy considering that I'm the fat pig I am.(healthy meaning lack of any major health problems, at this point, and not healthy meaning fit)... I can see the beautiful world around me, the brilliant hues splashed by the prism of light. That I can hear the aural delights from birds singing to our cat meowing, to the cultural musics that exist. That, even though I feel dumb sometimes, I know I can think some pretty unique things, and if I put my heart and hands into it, I can accomplish what I set out to achieve.
--------------------------------------
Lest anyone think I am a fluffy bunny all cute and pink and happy and have now turned pollyannish on you, let me state that such is not the case. I'm just trying to show that I can be positive, even though it can be hard for me not to be the devil's advocate at times...
