I've thought often about the capacity of the human mind to perceive wave-patterns when on psychedelics, and my original inclination was that, in some way, psychedelics(or, at the very least, psilocybin and LSD, for, alas, I have never tried anything else, although I sure wouldn't mind DMT or some other such tryptamines, but I digress... as I was saying, in some way, psychedelics...) allow one to perceive the wave-like nature of reality, as opposed to the particle form of our everyday experience.

The fact of the matter is, everything is energy, or some sort of wave function. Electrons, photons and other sub-atomic particles can be viewed either as particle or wave. This is known. My hypothesis was that in our everyday state, we perceive the particulate nature of reality, because that is what we need in order to survive. Solidity, ego, and separateness is what the biological organism requires. If I see some vicious creature heading toward me in order to consume my flesh, it would be better, for individual survival, that I perceive this "other" as such and that I run away. For if I viewed it merely as a waveform that is attempting to comingle with my own waves, and form some sort of harmonic resonance, I would have no need to fear. Something like that. I'm kinda tired and don't have too much time, but I hope that makes sense.

But basically, here's what I'm saying. Initially, I thought the wave effects of LSD and psilocybin were an external perception of reality, somehow bypassing the function of particulate perception(by what means, I know not, nor would I even have a clue where to begin), however, now that I've gotten halfway through The Invisible Landscape(by Dennis & Terence McKenna), it could just be that one is actually intercalating the tryptamine molecules into the RNA neuronal transfer sites and resonating frequencies within the mind, so that we are not perceiving necessarily the waveforms "out there" but the waveforms, or resonances, within our own minds.

Of course, it begs the question whether or not what is "out there" is really any different from what is "in here"... The interface between mind and so called "external reality" is something I find quite interesting, and in it's ultimate form, is nothing but a cybernetic interface. The feedback loop between the external world and the internal and vice versa is the ultimate cybernetic system, and in that sense we truly are cybernetic organisms(amongst many others)...

One thing that is mentioned in Invisible Landscape as well, is a sort of substance that is violet or dark blue in color that the shaman molds with his intonations and chanting... The fact that this is a sort of indigo color(I'm assuming when he says dark blue), leads me to speculate once again on the nature of psychedelics and the chakras. First, the natural color of psilocybin is blue, and LSD, when viewed under a certain type of light, glows blue, and now I read this about Ayahuasca and this "stuff" of violet/dark blue hue... The color of the Ajna chakra, the third eye, or pineal gland as some believe, which is also the homesite of DMT in the brain and largest source of Serotonin in the body, is also indigo... Is this coincidence? The color violet, however would indicate something of a higher nature beyond just the psychic resonance of the third eye, as if on a higher plane than a mere psychic manifestation. I don't know. Being the empiricist that I am, I can only experiment in order to conlude my hypothesis... heh heh... snicker snicker... anyone care to join in and help?

Anyways, gonna go pick up rosemary and watch tony's band play on the local public access channel.... Nighty night all.

the action of lsd is an alteration of perception. this alteration has to be an internal one. while it is arguable what exactly reality is and therefore it would be hard to argue whether or not perceptions during the hallucinatory state represent reality or not...it is plausible to say perception of reality is altered while on this drug. so an analogy would be placing a filter on camera lens.

the main site of action of tryptamine hallucinogenics is the 5-HT receptor...which is naturally a serotonin receptor. LSD is a serotonin analog that binds more strongly to the receptor than serotonin itself. therefore the hallucinotary condition is basically a serotonin excess condition.

you should research serotonin excess syndrome for additional insights. also i'm sure there is a ton to glean from primary research on the topic of hallucinogenics...

as for the tryptamine molecule intercalating the RNA neuronal transfer sites...i'm a PhD in Neurobiology and have never heard (nor can concieve of what they could be just based on the nomenclature)...

the perceptions of waves could very well be related to consistent triggering of seratonergic neurons following ingestion of a tryptamine psychedelic. Nerve impulses as you know travel in the form of waves (a wave of depolarization across the membrane as the action potential traverses along the axon...). neural events are always in the form of waves...

do you have LJ? I would love to speak/discuss with a
neurobiologist.....gosh, I would pay actually! do you have
an email so I could contact you if you don't mind answering
some questions or just shooting the breeze? I don't bite,
I promise ;)

peace

ahhhh!!!

First of all, how wonderful we are reading the same
book at the same time!!!!

holographic model of the brain/universe is boggling my
mind deliciously...it is all in how you "look" at things.

I enjoyed reading this very very very much...please keep
noting any of your thoughts as you read the book, and any
other interesting book...I like the way your brain works :) :)

peace
