I just heard John Nichols interviewed by Al Franken... John is an editor at our local paper The Capitol Times. He's very progressive, and attends lots of progressive events, and writes great editorials. He was talking about the Democrats and how they're gaining in the west... That Montana is having good news for the left, and even in Wyoming, which was solidly Republican(every single fucking county), for the past few elections, this time, one county voted Democrat. That's good news. Sure it's only one county, but it's a crack in the wall.
The funny thing? It's Dick Cheney's home county.
He's making the case that the west can be won by appealing to progressive values: Community, Environment, Fair Wages, etc... Instead of focusing on the south, he says we should work and understand that the west is where the national polity should be focusing.
It was inspiring to hear him talk, and it wasn't just the same old lines of BS that you always hear. It was fresh news... Yay for local paper editors! Oh, he's also a contributor to The Nation magazine.
