After my last post,
rance said something about enjoying this, because, though he admires all strange ass high-ramblings i get myself into, he is a member of the "reality-based community". I asked him what it was. In the meantime, I had googled it. I read some articles and commentary on it.
The origin is this: Ron Suskind, who wrote a book called The Price of Loyalty about Paul O'Neill, the treasury secretary, who was beginning to come around to see Bono's point of view on eliminating third world debt, and also spoke out against the tax cuts as being fiscally irresponsible, was canned. Anyways, in this article (if it asks for login, use nytimes6 for username, and nytimes as password... please don't distribute this login, some of you will use bugmenot anyways, if you don't have your own account)... as I was saying: In that article this text appeared. (you should read that bit for the remarked "reality based community"
Now...
The aide said that guys like me were "in what we call the reality-based community," which he defined as people who "believe that solutions emerge from your judicious study of discernible reality." I nodded and murmured something about enlightenment principles and empiricism. He cut me off. "That's not the way the world really works anymore," he continued. "We're an empire now, and when we act, we create our own reality. And while you're studying that reality -- judiciously, as you will -- we'll act again, creating other new realities, which you can study too, and that's how things will sort out. We're history's actors . . . and you, all of you, will be left to just study what we do."
First I just realized this reminds me of a David cross bit, where he says that "Bush hasn't made up his mind yet on evolution. Hmmm... Let's see something about the world being created in six days 4000 years ago by god, or... or... cold hard facts. That's really tough, which is the right choice."
Now, a few issues come to mind from this
Warfare strategy, they are forging a world, and we are in the wake, while we're busy picking up the mess, they are busy using media to propagate ideals, through the power of language and image. As much as I hate to say it, it's sadly true that Republicans have mastered the arts of Newspeak, and mind control. MK-Ultra was it? CIA program to study mind control techniques. Surely this must have included the study of mass-scale control as well. I don't necessarily think there is any connection with this, in the long run, just an amusing theory. Now, here's the thing. There are many think-tanks funded by highly financed, people in large scale power. You've seen some of it with Sinclair Group(and luckily grass-roots activism is working on that one quite well), and Fox News(as the most obvious example), but many of these talking heads are all over TV, and they work in these think tanks, such as: The American Enterprise Institute, The Bradley-Olin Foundation, and The Cato Institute, Heritage Foundation... (Technically, Bradley-Olin is a "charity" that funds these institutes) They publish big business journals, and infiltrate college republican groups indoctrinating their conservative members into this particularly virulent strain of thought, a combination of religious ideology, complete support of pure capitalism, and an Imperial admonition. My co-worker Bruce(my boss's brother) said to me:
"You know, I'm a conservative, but I think this ad is kinda funny" It's some sort of thing called "Brad the Teenage Republican Zombie" and it kinda gives an image of the Bush Youth Republicans, working for these foundations and publishing magazines, and demonstrating, etc...
He said something about it not being true. I looked at him and said: You don't think so? He laughed, and said No... I said well, it's true. I gave him the biggest, quickest example I could find which was of this character in a Republican Convention Youth thing, and he was kicking a liberal protestor while she was on the ground being arrested by police. Bruce said "I... I don't do that." I told him, no Bruce, I know you don't... but this is happening. That opened the door a little.
Anyways, there's these organizations that are spending millions of dollars on this psychological research, to alter our perception of truth. Recently, this report was released which shows how Bush supporters are misinformed of stances of Bush on the environment and free-trade, what the intelligence indicates(and we now know), there are a majority of these people who believe these wrong things, such as Saddam had links to Al-Qaeda, that he was involved somehow in 9-11... that the reports commissioned by Bush shows there were WMD... all wrong info. But they believe this, because of the "reality distortion field" generated by these think tanks and the talking heads in the media(ie: Ann Coulter, Tucker Carlson, etc...)
New-age "co-generators of reality" From there, the idea is that we are creators of "reality"(which is our ideology pushing ahead -- by we, I mean the GOP/Right-Wing agenda) This seems very new-agey to me, which is odd, since there is so much that has to do with xianity. But really, isn't this all just about propagation of memes, all these techniques are subtle propaganda techniques.
The idea that they deal in ideals, and we deal in the "real world", shows a tendency towards their philosophical roots, which has been expounded by one of their founding fathers Leo Strauss, that of a sort of Greek Oligarchy, the rule of an intellectual elite(which is funny, because this indicates the double-speak of theirs... They appeal to anti-intellectualism, yet have a subversive, covert agenda through this network which actually uses this intellectual elitism to rule the sheep) Now, they believe in this, and it matches with their philosophy of Political Idealism, and they believe that are the sort of Logoi incarnate into the political world.
Now, they say they are forging ahead, and we are picking up the wake. This disturbs me, because it indicates our strategies are always playing catch-up. We need to work on getting ahead. But also, the idea of magick is now indicated as a proper method to battle. The issue of Image and Viral Marketing. Now, this is an issue not of idealism, though it discusses things in the abstract...
I feel that
rance was saying something to the effect of I like your trippy shit, but "back here on earth"... But I believe that the issue is both a ground war and a battle of ideas. Before Kerry was talking about a "Green Industry" public works project, I was working on this issue in my head. But this is a practical manifestation of solutions. We need to SET the agenda, not just react against their agenda... But we need to figure out a way to get ahead, as I mentioned before. I think this is really going to require something radically new. I don't know what it is.
But there is such a deep sort of infestation of these entities. I swear, it's just like the fucking Invisibles. We're in for a wild ride, wherever it leads.
