so tonight, I decided to fuck around with mozilla and firebird(after downloading and playing with superkaramba) I have to play with superkaramba a bit more, figure out how my cpu censors are set up on my mobo, and figure out the perl script for mail, I'm using the cynapse theme.
just thought of another interface feature... gonna detail it later. for now, as a reminder to myself.
highlight text, right click, googlesearch for phrase, find proper link, get URL, "make link", automatically generate a href around text. this is where integrated searching comes in handy. i'm sure there's an easy way to do it. i wonder if there's a good bash script possible for searching google.
the more i play with linux, the more i see just what sort of power is behind it. windows scripting is pathetically sad(not that i've really tried to use it, but the tools just seem so... lacking)
*nix just rocks!
ok, so anyways, i found a script from the cynapse site that fixes a couple issues with firefox/thunderbird.
one is the issue of how when you accidentally open firefox when there's already an instance running, it starts up the "login" screen for a different user, this fixes it, and opens a tab.
also, i got the mailto: working, which i had a problem with before, but their thunderbird script worked wonders.
i had one last problem with clicking on an URL in thunderbird, and it again did the "login" screen if an instance of firefox was open. I just went into prefs.js and added a proper link to the new script that i was using for firefox, and it works peachy keen!
Oh, and since I got the proper script for firefox, I am now able to get the link to my friends page from LogJam.
I should try to update to a newer(and hopefully better version, if possible) of LogJam... I don't like how it does paragraphs. I may try a different client. I'll also ask Evan about how it works.
I now need to work on organizing my data better.
I'm planning on attempting Gentoo again. I did like the software installation of their programs.
And it's got 2.6 kernel and gnome 2.6 and kde 3.2, i'm excited about trying both.
Now that I've installed the nvidia driver, i know i have experience with that and am excited.
I'm damn nervous about it though. I don't wanna spend time with all the compiling, but I know that ultimately, I'd like to have an optimized system for my athlon as well. I think I would like to keep the same partitioning, but maybe I'll change it. I printed all the install docs at work today, and am planning on reading it tomorrow. By Friday, I should be ready to install. Tony will jam that night, so I can compile while we're doing that(I need to keep ripping the DATs to my HD and burn copies for tony by then as well)
I have to work Sunday, but again, it should be easy, mostly playing gameboy, and babysitting the printer, but i may have to do more. we'll see.
bah. i should really try to get to bed before 4:00 am. *sigh*
I hope my boss isn't in tomorrow.
