hmmm...
am thinking about tianeptine instead of effexor, been doing lots of reading.

also have found a new SNRI coming out (by Eli Lilly) called Cymbalta(Duloxetine)...
Apparently, it's fairly rapid acting(in this case, it shows effects in about a week)

There is no 1 a day formula for Cymbalta, and it's not on the market yet.

So I'm not thinking about that. But I am curious about Tianeptine compared to Effexor. It appears to be a bit less likely to cause drowsiness.

Tianeptine is sort of like an Anti-SSRI. Or rather, it's an SSRE(Serotinin Reuptake ENHANCER) This actually depletes the serotonin in your synapses, yet it still has a similar effect to the Inhibitors which flood the synapses with serotonin(be reducing the uptake of the serotonin into the neurons)

This is interesting stuff...

Last I heard tianeptine is not available in North America.

Do you know the mechanism that enables duloxetine to be fast-acting? There are a couple of different theories as to why there is a delayed effect with all antidepressants and I wonder which one this validates.

I don't know much about it yet... I just found out about it tonight, but am going to look into it more in the coming months.

It does seem strange, considiring it's not completely novel in it's mechanism of action... AFAIK, however, it's only the second SNRI (at least near public release)...

I'll keep up on it and find out more. If I find anything I'll let you know.

Ultimately, if Tianeptine isn't available, I'll probably head back to effexor. It worked, I just wish I could use something that doesn't drain me so much. But better a little tired than anxious and depressed...

Please keep me posted. I'll let you know what I find too.

Have you tried Wellbutrin? It's usually not sedating, and doesn't cause weight gain or sexual side effects either. It's working for me, I'm on it now.

Another noradrenergic drug to check out is atomoxetine (a.k.a. tomoxetine). My psychiatric suggested I look into it but I haven't got around to it yet because I'm okay with buproprion. They're using it for ADHD but there's renewed interest in it as an antidepressant. Strattera is another one beginning to be applied as an AD too.
