watch this now. it's fucking amazing propaganda. And don't worry, it's anti-Bush. It really brings a tear to your eye(at least it did to mine. literally. I just choked up... I think I'm gonna copy it and bring it to work on a CD and show some of my more open-minded conservative co-workers. I know, it's an oxymoron, sorta, but not really, cuz I was conservative, but open-minded enough to change)
As an aside: I've been listening to my Cheb i Sabbah disc a bit lately, and the other day on WORT, they were playing the second track from that disc as an outro from a show, and now........ they're playing track 1...
Nice....

Date: 2003-08-16 11:51 am (UTC)I still maintain a love-hate relationship with Libertarians. Not so much hate as a general dislike for the cultish aspect. But again, that could be said for any sort of thing. Including the left-leaning ideologues that I tend to agree with. I used to be a libertarian... heh. See my old Libertarian page from back in like 96 or so:
Those were the days.
I think I ended up changing from Libertarian, to Libertarian-Socialist due to my move to Madison. I had attempted to hook up with party operatives, and get involved in the local Libertarian scene. Unfortunately, I think Libertarianism tends to take on an oppositional character to the local political climate. Since Madison is so liberal, the local libertarian party emphasized the more conservative aspects of the party. At least, the leadership that I was in contact with.
There was a tendency to push on the Gun Control legislation issues(which I pretty much support the right to keep and bear arms, beyond any sort of "constitutional" reasons), and just his sort of attitude was a bit much. We kept in touch a bit, but after a while, I sorta lost contact...
I still respect their stances, and think they have a firm conviction that's pretty admirable. And I understand that the "Libertarian Party" is not the be all and end all of libertarianism, that there's other ways of being Libertarian than the doctrinaire cult of the LP Platform.
If I had my way we'd have a proportional representation system, and the Libertarians would be one of the groups involved in our democracy.
That said, I don't really think of Libertarians as conservative in the traditional sense. I do see them more as a constitutionalist-liberal, or something of that nature... Guess I'm just babbling(as always)... (http://www.geocities.com/Athens/4499/liberty.html)

Date: 2003-08-16 04:38 pm (UTC)There are certainly heartless redneck bastards who glory in the death of innocents, but the vast majority of these soldiers are honest, hardworking people just trying to do the right thing. The fact that many of them have complained publicly on the news about the conditions and called for Rumsfeld to resign is one indication of the frustration these people feel.
Also, to me, the point of this isn't for "us"(opponents of the war)... I know we had this debate before, where you said simply "I DON'T support the troops" or something along those lines... But... When it comes down to it, this is good shit to show any so called "Pro-troop" republicans you may know(and surely, even though you seem pretty liberal, you must have some acquaintances who are right("broken")-wingish, and thus are "support the troops"... Thinking that this administration is actually about supporting the humans, when really it's about the big fucking contracts to his suppliers(ie: Carlyle Group, which Poppy Bush is a consultant/member of), etc... I think if people see the heartlessness of this prick, the moderate people who are just suckered into the war, and are pretty decent people, who are just fucking stupid. Well, if they see this and start to think: Hey, this guy SAYS support the troops, but he doesn't give a shit about the soldiers... Well, that's one step in the right direction.
It's not so much about whether you personally support them, but for me, it's propganda against Bush that maybe will convince some more moderate independent/republicans to think a little more about this.
that's all.
If you disagree, well, what can I say?

Date: 2003-08-16 11:58 pm (UTC)and you do raise some good points. showing the warmongering soldier that his chief sold him out might make him think twice about having bush in office again, if not turn him into a liberal straight out.
though i have found that every evidence shown them would result in some inane brush off like"the president s job is really hard"
