WarCraft III..............
2 more levels, and I'll have beaten the undead campaign.
again.
and head into the orc campaign.
again...
I don't remember how far I got on the Orc campaign, but I know that it wasn't too far, maybe 3rd level.
These next two levels(the undead ones) are going to be pretty tough.
I've started to make backups finally.
I've finally learned.
And with the CD-RW's that my nephew gave me, it's nice that I can fucking rewrite on them, so i don't have to waste good CD-R's to make backups.
Theta, been thinking about you. Sorry I haven't written in a while, but I know you've been quite busy, and don't have much time at the library.
Been thinking about programming again(thanks Brent!... it's in thinking about the XGameStation thing of LaMothe's that prompted me to think about programming again...)
I have SDL, and a book on it(as well as a book on DirectX programming, which I don't plan on using... The DirectX book is mostly for the overview of game programming(ie: basic physics and concepts for games), even though the code is DirectX specific, which totally sucks.
I know that SDL is quite powerful and cross platform, but it's a bitch to program in.
I like Allegro better, but only found one tutorial that explains things, and it's not the best in it's format.
There's no books on Allegro, which is sad. It's also cross platform, which is nice.
I dunno, SDL or Allegro?
Or do I just say "fuck it" and realize that I shouldn't attempt to program games...
I have a pretty fucking rad idea for a puzzle game, but it requires hexagon geometry, and I haven't found anything that really gives good info on how to actually make hexes on the screen, though I figured out a general algorithm, but without an API with graphic primitive support, I was S.O.L.(when I figured out the algorithm, I had SDL which doesn't have graphics primitives built in, only rects and points... there is a library for it, so I could have used that, but, once again, Allegro has that shit already in it... So I may just download Allegro since it's easier and has the primitives.)
The game, I'm going to call Hexbgon...
I think it could be a fun lil' diversion.
I'm thinking of perhaps contacting someone at Human Head Studios or Raven Software and seeing if they have any sort of contacts locally who has some spare time to make an open source game... I don't expect their employees to do it, but maybe they have some info on who might desire to...
feh, it's late. must sleep or something.

Date: 2003-08-13 10:10 am (UTC)I think this is why the XGameStation appeals to me, since it comes w/ complete documentation of the API's etc, and you don't have to deal w/ OS shit.
