I got a CD-burner again today(if you recall, my old one got busted to fuck), and now that I have a little extra cash again, I picked myself up a little gift(Tony's gonna be reimbursing me a little however, as a b-day present, towards the purchase of it)

I just tested it out.

It's a Memorex 52x, but for some reason it only allows 40x speed, anyone know why?

But it did work. Although after the first time I tried the disc it didn't wanna play, but now it seems to do so. Hopefully this won't be indicative of any problems.

gonna burn some Terence McKenna mp3's onto CD for Tony for his b-day...

It depends on the speed of the media - and I believe the fastest cd-rs they have out right now is 40x...alas, 52x should be out fairly soon.

Didja get the $30 sony 52x from best buy, or a different one?

Memorex. I didn't see any Sony burners. I looked for some more "hardware" oriented brands, but mostly only found the brands that are associated with media. And generic ones, too, of course. But not sony or toshiba or whatever other people make pc cd-burners...

I've noticed weird problems w/ high speed burns on cheap media. Generally, if it's data I really care about I cut the speed down a notch. One bad combo seems to be burning intall disks at 40X on cheap media and then trying to read them w/ a old CDROM drive. Anyway... Even when you cut the speed down, it's a nice burner.
