My first experience with Hakim Bey was with this album by Praxis: Transmission(Mutatis Mutandis)
I bought it back in like 94 or something... At BEST BUY! Back when they actually had music. I can't believe they sold this. Anyways, if you've never heard it, I urge you to seek it out.
Produced by Bill Laswell, Bernie Worrell and Bootsy Collins of P-Funk fame... Buckethead the spastic guitarist(who Axl Rose recruited for his Guns'n'Roses resurrection, which never seems to come), and Brain on drums(not very familiar with him)
Inside cover has text from Hakim, I think about the Jubilee concept, but not sure.
Drop 2 hits of acid(4 or 5 if you REALLY wanna have some fun), pop this album in, and drift away into the vast underwater-robot-heartpumping future. Interworld and the New Innocence really just fucking did me in when I was tripping. My god. You really feel underwater funk just oozing and dripping. gorgeous beautiful stuff. It goes all over from ambient rock to speed/thrash metal, to funky dance.....

not trying to out do you at all...
Date: 2003-07-10 07:20 am (UTC)um, someone, it escapes me right now, was in a band that had the word "pickle" in it...ugh. can't think. some great shit. maybe it will come to me.
their first cd, or the praxis name (as the albums progressed, from what i understood, praxis became a concept and they just started to lend the name out to people who wanted to use it. mostly though, the people involved had tie-ins with bill laswell) was nothing but television fuzz. i've never heard it, but i've wanted to check it out. i don't know if they messed around with the sound or left it straight up tv static. i personally always thought it was kinda neat.
have you heard the album right after this one? i can't think of the name right now and i'm a tad to lazy to look it up. some more nifty shiznit. might add to the experience for ya.
your a bad man though...now i want to dig through the many cd boxes and find the shit i've not listened to in ages. good / bad.
have you heard of john zorn? i think you'd like some of his stuff, or the mr bungle album disco violante(sp?) ...this list could go on and on...hope all is well in the house of your existance and then some.
