Something like day 13 or whatever of this shitty weather. Gah!
OK, so today I figured out exactly what my first CD I create is going to be.
(Side note: This is cute, I'm listening to 'Cat House' by Takako Minekawa, and when the cat meows in the song, Tangee gets up to look for the other cat... Poor girl, I think she misses Pixel. She is finally eating, though, somewhat at least... But now she has a cold... Aww...)
Now, back to the lecture at hand:
It's not going to necessarily be music, per se.
It is structured around a 78 minute format, with 3 two minute sections removed, leaving a remaining 72 minutes, divided into two 36 minutes sections, labeled A and B. Each of these sections will be composed of 6 "circles", of 360 seconds a piece. This means I'll have 6 circles that are 6 minutes a piece.(there are 360 seconds in 6 minutes... multiply those seconds by 6 to get 6 "circles" to complete the first and second section.)
The three 2 minutes sections will act as an intro, interlude and ending. Each of these parts are encoded from ascii into binary format, with one second being a bit. The notes themselves aren't really important so much as the structure of these three parts.
I don't know exactly how I'm going to make the 12 circles, but I do know how i'm going to create the 3 other sections. I did the graph tonight. Broke down the words into ascii then converted them to binary. There will be some padding before and after each word.
The disc itself will be called "+consc"
Packed with the disc will be a booklet detailing a philosophy of modern day train of thought, our hyperkinetic mindset, the roots of it in technology, and how technology perhaps as a limiting factor, by creating non-linear methods of thinking which goes towards a more yin approach to mind than the linear logical yang approach. A sort of karma, perhaps, whereby hypertext and such technologies create a mental environment that is disjointed and fractal.
Let's just say that I'm going to require: 4,320 samples, for the primary circles, all 1 second in length(each sample is a degree)... The packaging will be a combination of art and text. I guess I'm looking at this as more of a hypermedia type set up instead of music as such. I guess I'll see how it turns out when I'm done. It'll take a while, but I think this is the best thing for me to do at this point with sound and philosophy. When I'm done, I'll let you all know (hopefully it's something some of you would find interesting)
Peace out,
me
