This amazes me. The left is the character model from half-life from 1998, and the right is the character model for half-life 2, due (heh, yeah, games never get pushed back...) this year.
Anyways, I knew we had a large change in the past five years, but it's hard for me to really believe/realize that this is how far things have gone... I'm very curious as to what 5 years from now will bring...

Date: 2003-05-11 12:11 am (UTC)The halflife2 engine is, however, supposed to be pretty damned good.
I don't really think it's fair, however, to compare anything to Doom3, cuz really, can you ever compare anything to Carmack?
But, the point was really that yeah, maybe it's the "expected" difference of 5 years upgrade, but if you've only played halflife and gotten used to it's graphics, and seeing the side-by-side comparison, i guess all I'm saying is, it's pretty impressive. It's been five years, and I think the thing is that I didn't realize that at first. I mean, compare 93 to 98 technology, and there's a huge gap. I think the whole "time speeds up as you get older" effect comes into play here, because it just doesn't FEEL like 5 years to me.
And I wasn't trying to claim that HalfLife2 is the be all and end all of graphics. But look at that expression... Yeah, I know, it's always getting better, but I dunno. Whatever. It took your comment kinda harshly, however. But whatever. It's just graphics. heh. BTW, tony just picked up ikaruga, so I'll probably be checking it out tomorrow.
