So, some very interesting synchronicities surrounding thought processes today:
I have been really thinking about moving to Canada in 2005 if bush get's re-elected in 2004(that gives me 2 years to save up money, and do research on immigrating and all that jazz) --
Here's the synch's...
1) I was thinking about moving to Canada, and pulled out the CD, and realized I was listening to Boards of Canada.
2) I was driving to lunch, and looked at the truck in front of me(a big ol' redneck looking truck, btw), and affixed to it, was not an American flag(as redneck trucks tend to have), but.... you got it! A CANADIAN flag(with the word Canada above it)
3) this quote: "I don't see a way out, other than over the border."
from a slashdot thread I was just reading now.
Strange.
My co-worker (who is also leftist) is like "Canada isn't perfect" and I replied "No. No country is. All Western democracies are generally similar in their standard of living with various pros and cons for each one based on culture and history(well not quite that in depth)... But the point is that 1) I don't want to have to be part of this system which attacks the world at every turn. 2) I see the police state coming, and I'd rather not be here when it does."
I certainly plan on voting and working as hard as I can when the time comes to get that fucker out. I am voting democrat(again, as I've mentioned numerous times) unless Lieberman gets the nomination. If so, we're pretty much fucked with a capital F. Point is, I better start looking at alternatives and possibilities now before it gets too late.
So, the question to my Canadian friends(Cato, knigel, twistedgreen, detestament) What are your likes and dislikes of Canada. Please list, as unbiased as possible, the pros and cons that you see about Canada, and also what your perception of the US is and how you perceive the US compares to Canada. I know, I know. We can all be anarchist and revolutionary and such, but I'm just wanting some simple pragmatism at this point, so i can start planning. If you want to rant about the capitalist system and how it's fucked up in Canada, I already know about that shit. Just the general, though, of how laws are in your country, the politics, media issues, drugs, etc... What do you think of these things when it comes to your country.
I plan on looking at info online as well, but it's nice to have a personal view as well.

Date: 2003-04-24 10:00 pm (UTC)It obviously doesn't look too feasible.
I just dunno.
But, damn, that sucks about Rob. I really haven't seen him in ages(I really don't keep in touch with him, except for the yearly xmas thing) If/when you get in touch, LMK what's going on with him, if he has plans, if he's already got other things happening currently, etc...
Well, gotta head out... Later on lesbian!
