" Some Marine units took a break on their push toward the Iraqi capital Saturday in what commanders called an "operational pause." The troops worked to secure their lines of communications and wait for more of their comrades to catch up after heavier than expected attacks along the way." -- source: AP
That's the US propaganda of the story...
Now read the TimesOnline.co.uk version of these events:
THIS is a force of Marines that has run out of energy on a patch of mud in the central Iraqi marshlands.
What was supposed to be a ten-day sprint towards Baghdad ended yesterday when the US Marines 11th regiment came to rest. The force had all but exhausted its supplies of fuel, food rations, ammunition and water, and morale was at an all-time low.
The officers said that it lacked everything: “beans, bullets and Band-Aids.”
...
The final straw was an aborted mission on Thursday to capture an airfield that proved too small to bother about, and was surrounded by sniperinfested civilian buildings.
The tanks alone had used hundreds of gallons of diesel fuel on the 40-mile round trip. The return journey was made more difficult by the Marines’ own unexploded munitions, which littered the road. One young Marine stepped on a hidden dud round, losing his foot.
...
Some essential supplies like ammunition — a lot more of which has been used than expected — has been flown in by helicopter. “We thought this would be a liberation of Iraq. We thought the people would be throwing flowers at us,” Colonel Gentry said.
“But it’s been a lot more hostile than that.”
-------
Notice the detail. After reading more online, it just makes me more and more realize how fucking pathetically "Inbed-with" the US reporters really are. It just sickens me.
"Taking a break" sounds much less harsh than "Forced to stop because we're out of supplies", and "Tougher than expected resistance" sounds less harsh than "We thought they wanted us here, but they're trying to kick us out!" --- The resistance implications just sounds like the troops are fighting soldiers, not that the people themselves are uprising.
Someone else brought out the point that CNN is showing shitloads about the one missile in Kuwait that killed no-one, but don't mention the bombs just dropped on a marketplace(yes, a SECOND market-place, not the one that just happened on Tuesday)...
A great new site you guys might wanna check out... Just like you should check out Tom Tomorrow's blog...
John Brownload He's a director, who has a lot of great links about the war. Enjoy them!
Aside: Omega Pirate's gonna be my biyatch tomorrow. I hope to beat Metroid Prime by the end of the weekend. Mandrake 9.1 is now on my system, just have to get LogJam loaded, and all the fucking dependencies that requires. I like it so far, and the interface is nice. I wanna like GNOME, but it's just tooooooooooooooooooo fucking slow. KDE just is so much better IMHO. Also, the one thing I'm not understanding is that Mozilla 1.3 is now NOT blocking the pop-ups like it did when I had 8.2... WHY???? I'm pissed about that. Grr...
