So, I mentioned in a previous post how much I love the character designer in CoH/CoV (CoX, from here on out)... In Sims 2, I like to play with the character designer (I don't really like the gameplay of the main game, not goal oriented enough, I guess... or really, I guess I don't like the pacing of it). Anyways, I also love to play with making new toons in WoW, though it's not nearly as fun, cuz the options are so limited.
But this got me thinking... I think it comes down to me being someone who really likes making characters. Back in high school, I used to make up superheroes, and draw them... We'd play Marvel RPG (ok, we made characters... OMG! Even in tabletop RPGs, most of what I ever did was make characters. Wow.) Anyways, I always had fun making up characters and playing with looks, whether drawing them or in an rpg, looking up stats and making neat combos that I thought were cool.
And so I realize this is a trend that goes back to my younger years and continues even now.
Also, I saw some more screens of Spore, and the creature generator is awesome! I'll have to play with the demo, when it comes out (they're releasing a free version of the creature creator which is 25% of the main creator), and I'm sure I'll get the full game, but I honestly don't know how much fun I'll have compared to just making creatures.
That said, I've always looked forward to genetic algorithms in games, and I think Spore has that, so I'm very curious. I know Sims2 did as well, but I don't know how strongly that's in effect, because I don't like the main gameplay. I really hope the game is balanced well, and isn't too simplistic nor too hard.
One more thing about CoH and MMOs in general. I find something that turns me off is too much "chrome" in the interace, and I haven't seen any default interface that removes most of it. It would be nice to see a game that clears out that clutter. I mean, sure you gotta have artists, and it's nice to have something that fits the style of the game, but honestly... I'd rather clear out that waste of space to give me what I need... hence why I like some of the AddOns for WoW that allow you to simplify the interface.
