Generally, people have selfish desire as a principle, so it's still compromise at some level.

Just an abstract thought. An attempt at some sort of aphorism, I guess. As [livejournal.com profile] roadriverrail pointed out, however, self-interest can be seen as a sort of principle, and in such a case, a lot of politicos then *are* compromising, even if they don't appear to be doing so.
