I got this book for xmas called "Imponderables" that collects a series printed in Readers Digest of the same name. Questions by people of things that are kinda like "Yeah, why is ..., anyway?"
One was about auctioneers and how they talk. It got me thinking that an interesting art project would be to create speech software and e-bay recognition software, and combine them to create a virtual "auctioneer" (though it wouldn't be a realtime thing, but rather a way to record and play back auctions).
So, after an auction has ended, the auctioneer would scan the item description, all the bids, then compress the length of the auction into a time frame, so a 3 day auction would end up being a couple minutes. Then it reads the description fast, along with filler words and bids. So it would be like hearing an auction in real time instead of the long stretch of days that virtual auctions have.
