recently,
arachnophiliac had replied to my query regarding the potential origin of zombies from a form of Transmissible Spongiform Encephalopathy (TSE). This disease in my query is called Kuru. It's a type of TSE. These are diseases related to Mad Cow Disease, Chronic Wasting Disease (this is one that affects the deer in the upper midwest (WI at least, and possibly other states), and it may affect other animals, like Elk, Moose, etc... but not sure on that)
anyways, his/her (shit I forgot, or do I know?) reply was that an accepted theory is that it involves the poison from the fugu fish.
I come across this tonight:
The pufferfish:
The pufferfish genus Fugu has recently been renamed Takifugu in the taxonomy database. This is based on the recommendation of: Matsuura, K. 1990. The pufferfish genus Fugu Abe, 1952, a junior subjective synonym of Takifugu Abe, 1949. Bull. Natn. Sci. Mus., Tokyo, Ser. A. 18(1):15-20. Takifugu includes the species Takifugu rubripes (formerly Fugu rubripes), which is a well known model organism for the vertebrate genome. Any sequence from Takifugu rubripes can still be retrieved by searching on 'Fugu rubripes', because Fugu rubripes is included in the database as a synonym of Takifugu rubripes.
