symbioidljSo, my previous post on the death penalty got a comment from "anonymous" titled "Book Recommendation" and it was a cut and paste job from something like Amazon/Book Publisher cover blurb. There was no other info (i.e. it wasn't posted with a link to anything, nor was it posted with stupid crap like casinos or viagra or whatever the fuck the kids are spamming these days.) So I guess technically it's not spam, as there wasn't anything besides a single comment on a topic related to the post. But it's a dumb comment. I had it deleted, even though I normally don't like doing that. I also marked it as spam because... well, in my eyes, it was pushing a product on my journal, and I refuse to allow that.
I have IP address logging on anonymous comments, so I whois'd that puppy and the given IP was registered to Microsoft. Either someone at MS was doing this on the side while at work (and thinking they were providing a "legit" comment) or it was a strange sort of spam that was routed through the MS servers. The lack of links or spammy type stuff leads me to think it was just a naive person thinking that a copy/paste job about a book on a related topic was a valid comment in my journal.
Well, alas, it's not. Sorry. Next time try to put a little thought into your entry. Or hell... Even a "hello there, thought you may be interested in this book, it changed my mind on this topic..." or something like that. Anything that shows a little more effort than click click click.
