oh yeah, once i get all my discs ripped, i'll finally be able to properly do that MP3 meme that's gone around a while ago...

you know: Load up your mp3s into your player and hit random, then list the first 10 that show up.

I know it'll be a nice mix.

I was looking at it today. Tom Jones, Autechre, MDC, Dead Can Dance, Susumu Yokota, Nick Drake, Johnny Cash, Metallica...

I love it when people have such a great variety(even though, I admit, I tend towards IDM and other electronic these days, I still appreciate good music whatever it may be)

metallica? good music? i'm amazed to hear that. what song if i may ask?

(i close my eyes and i see this group of guy sitting around a hat with little pieces of paper all folded up neatly, getting ready to sink thier hands in. a pon each piece of paper is a theme for the next album they'll do. hmm, should be be punk like on this album, or metal like, or do that thing with mister kaman, or that real neat bar covers cd)

not saying that's a bad thing. they do have some okay songs. just "surprised" to hear you say it. not that i think your closed minded in the least. far from it actually (ironic i would pick today to be more outgoing like, and you wrote me as well) crazy like that. anywho. yeah.

well, let's see. certainly not "modern" metallica.

I would term any pre-black album metallica as good. Anything from Kill 'Em All to Justice For All.

That includes Garage Days Re-revisited(I think that was the first garage days I heard. Yep, that's the one, I just looked it up) I did like the cover of Stone Cold Crazy on, I think it was either the Enter Sandman single or The Unforgiven.

I just thought of something.

When we hang out, I could bring my CD's and we could burn shit, if one of us has something the other is interested in. I hope I have something you may not have heard, but I doubt it. Who knows, we'll see. Gotta go to bed soon. Later.........

eh... pretty crappy cross-section.

ok, i was just giving a small, off the top of the head idea. this is just one that i have without having all my cd's burned, and yeah, I'm going to 25 tracks to makeup for my disproportionate amount of IDM, just so you can see that I *do* have a decent variety

(oh, looking at your list, maybe you meant that it was your cross-section that was kinda crappy? all those soundtracks and such? believe me, I believe that you have a very nice selection of music... funny thing is, I tend to rerandomize until I get a nice random sample. I am ashamed of the fact that there's two Tom Jones songs and no Autechre, even though I have like 13 or more ae discs, and only one Tom Jones. Indeed, there is only one and can only ever be, One Tom Jones):

1. Virus - not now (7:32)
2. Rollins Band - Step Back (3:58)
3. Nobukazu Takemura - funny illustrated book (4:40)
4. Anti-Flag - Angry, Young And Poor (2:42)
5. Deep Dish - War - Slippin' Into Darkness (Armand Van Helden Dub-Remix) (3:38)
6. Lenny Kravitz - Take Time (4:31)
7. Tom Jones - Green Green Grass Of Home (3:05)
8. Prefuse 73 - Untitled (1:25)
9. The Cinematic Orchestra - And Relax! (4:56)
10. Mike & Rich - The Sound of beady Eyes (7:44)
11. Penguin Cafe Orchestra - Zopf: Coronation (1:33)
12. Tom Jones - Chills And Fever (2:52)
13. Sagisu, Shiro - EVA-01 (2:49)
14. Various Artists - Transa / Enervate (Original Mix) (7:03)
15. Pizzicato Five - Love's Theme (4:15)
16. Ziggy Marley and the Melody Makers - People Get Ready (Vocal Mix) (3:53)
17. Jimi Tenor - Better Than Ever (4:49)
18. Momus - Some Mistranslations (2:02)
19. Aphex Twin - Grass (8:55)
20. Metamatics - A New End (5:47)
21. Boards of Canada - the color of the fire (1:45)
22. Bob Marley and The Wailers - Trench Town Rock (2:54)
23. Panacea - Hedonist Remix (7:31)
24. Susumu Yokota - Fearful Dream (4:10)
25. Shoukichi Kina - Basha-gua Suncha (3:30)

Yeah, I meant my list. 30% of them were anime soundtracks, which make up only 7% (2 GB) of my collection. Of course, you're pointed out the reason why humans can't generate random numbers: they try to make them "look" random, which results in an obvious pattern.

Here's another one because I like to show off my music:
Röyksopp - Sparks
gol - Planet of Spice
Informatik - I Confess (Repentance mix)
Garnet Crow - Kimi no Uchi ni Tsuku made Zutto Hashitte Yuku
C&C: Red Alert Soundtrack - Radio2
PPK - 21 century (extended club mix)
DJ Tiesto - Moogwai - Viola (Armin van Buuren Remix)
Andre Kostelanetz - Blue Danube Waltz, Op. 314
HELLOWEEN - MR. TORTURE
Capital Sound - Give a little love
I think something like this (http://www.audioscrobbler.com/user/twistedgreen/) can give a better cross-section, though.

Bel Biv Devoe - Poison (Extended Club Version)
DJ Danger Mouse - Justify My Thug
Beastie Boys - Dedication
Dave Mathews Band - Typical Situation
Jamiroquai - Didjerama
311 - Stealing Happy Hours
Temple Of The Dog - Hunger Strike
Nine Inch Nails - Leaving Hope
Dave Mathews Band - Satellite
Mint Condition - My Dear

"Leaving Hope"? I don't recognize that song. What album is it from?

Off the "Still" CD, which is the 2nd CD to their live "And All That Could Have Been", which I believe you can only buy online at the NIN website. It's really quite good.
