I've had this pattern programmed into the EM-1 for a long time, and decided to fuck around with it and record it to the computer. It's almost 18 minutes long, and it's about 18 Megabytes.
If you'd like to check it out, freel free. It's IDM.(what else?)
It's not that great, there's only the one pattern, and I don't have any other parts for it. But I still like it. It's preprogrammed, and I was doing real-time modification to it for the variations... So, though it's one pattern, I don't think it's too boring.
I plan on eventually getting more parts to it. Alas, I don't have any good multi-track recording software. *sigh* Well, I suppose I do have Cubase, but I hate that software.
I also have soundforge, but that doesn't seem to multitrack(at least the version 4.0 that I have)
Anyways, here's the link
022904.zip
It's a zip, but inside is an mp3... My host doesn't allow mp3s, so that's why I zip it.
Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Date: 2004-02-29 06:53 pm (UTC)Seems more like it would fall into the catagory of experimental or noize?
(a la Merzbow?)
That's some far out noise. Maybe some higher frequency instruments on top would fill in some sonic space. It seems like above 8kHz or so there is no frequency.
What is the EM-1?
Also, no not even sourdforge 7 supports multi-tracking - it's a wave editing program.
Try CoolEdit for a wave-editor/multi track editor.
This is far out. Reminds me of a nightmarish nintendo experience. Or like nintendo on a high dose of PCP or Disclopine (sp?)
Freaky.
It's definately not static. I have to turn it off. It's making me feel violent.
Hehe. I'm sure it was fun ;-) Reminds me of a few feedback with delay experiments I did in highschool.

Date: 2004-02-29 07:42 pm (UTC)I think this is a little more musical than merzbow, though. Unless I haven't heard enough of his stuff.
I've used CoolEdit a loooooooooong time ago, and forgot about it. I'll have to try that.
Thanks for the tips, also. Any constructive feedback is appreciated.
Ya know, you make music too, don't you? I don't think I've downloaded any of yours yet. I should do that.
I'm not sure if the "it makes me feel violent" and stuff "I did in high school" make feel too good about it, sadly.
I have another track that my girlfriend says she liked better. Maybe it's not as noisy... Yeah, just listening to it now(this other track), not as noisy, but some parts I screwed up the delay.
Also, it seems like some parts of it clipped. sigh.

Date: 2004-03-01 07:17 am (UTC)The track was definately not bad - my biggest critisism would be to fill in the frequency gap with some high frequency percussion (clicks, cymbols, hats, or something similar - or a noisy saw synth, or something).
I enjoyed the track non-the-less, although it's just a little more experimental than I'm used to, and I feel pretty sensitive to music - even most NIN makes me feel violent, and I usually must turn it off before the track finishes (cept for songs like "in a warm place", obviously.
I definately appreciate your work - even tho it's not something I'd normally listen to.
I'd even take the track into cool edit or FL or something, and add a couple other high frequency click tracks or something. It's a very cool experiment - but still - I'm curious as to what the EM-1 is.
Speaking of which, if you're using Soundforge 4 you probably don't have a good line on audio appz. You should contact me on MSN (alayablue@hotmail.com) and I'll share some... freeware... music applications with you. There is alot of good software out there that you may not be exposed to. Alot of good stuff has been produced in the past couple years. Especially in the last year with the updating of Fruity Loops, Absynth and Reason.

Date: 2004-03-06 08:42 pm (UTC)so, the EM-1 is the Korg Electribe-M. (http://www.korg.com/gear/info.asp?a_prod_no=EM1&category_id=2)
it's basically a small synth/drum-machine. They have a lot cooler ones now...
two synth parts, I think like 8 drum parts(four of those are two sets of two parts that are exclusive, ie: open/closed high-hat, but you can assign any of the samples to it.)
It's fairly limited in a couple ways. All sound is based on samples, so you're stuck with the limited number of samples. 50 for the synth sounds, and 100something for the drums.
There are some nice effects, but the biggest complaint is that effects are patternwide. Thus, I can choose to apply the effect to the part or not, but I can only have one effect that is applied. Luckily, there is a delay that's separate from the effects(which is also pattern wide). It would be nice to be able to have seperate effects per part.
but it was only a few hundred bucks, you can't expect too much with it.
eventually we'll be getting a clavia nordlead3... but that's gonna take some cash.
I work with my friend Tony who has an ER-1(which is a drum machine that uses wave-forms for sounds instead of samples) I wish that at least the synth part of the em-1 used wave forms.
Yeah, I've only got soundforge. I was Tracking for a while(do you know mods/modtracking?) but they tended to not be very good, really.
I don't have MSN messenger, but i'll try to get it in the coming week.
I know I've heard of Reason/Reaktor and all that stuff. Isn't fruityloops a virtual drum-machine?
Thanks for the help. It would be great to learn from someone some tips and tricks. Tony and I pretty much learn on our own.
