This last paragraph about the Georgian troubles(Georgia, Eastern European nation, the the US state) gives a nice little hint about stakes involved, and perhaps, the US might play a heavy covert role(I doubt it will be quite overt unless the shit really hits the fan):
"Western leaders have urged all parties to exercise restraint in the impoverished Caucasus state of five million. Trouble could threaten a planned oil pipeline through Georgia from neighboring Azerbaijan to Turkey."
