Gameage...

So, yesterday I got a lot of gaming in. Well not all day non-stop action, but still plenty in...

I beat all the mini-bosses in Megaman 1 (for the first time ever I think). I get to Dr. Wily's lair and can't progress, wtf? So I got to gamefaqs (I'm using the megaman collection for the xbox, so there's a hint screen that pops up if I hit "select"... however, the device he tells me to use (magnetic beam) doesn't exist. huh?) So going back to look at the faqs, it turns out i needed gutsman's arm weapon to move some blocks in elecmans level. However, I beat elecman before I beat gutsman, so I didn't realize there was anything I needed...

I recall the thing, I believe, that I'm supposed to pick up. I thought it was odd that there was something so out of the way (behind blocks), but now it makes sense. Of course, that's kinda sucky that I have to go back into a level I beat just to get one weapon because I didn't end up doing it in the "proper" order.

Further in Paper Mario. Got the yellow heart and into the pixel world. Got to the tree, stuck at the bark encrusted door at first, til I read gamefaqs (but haven't gone back to try the solution... no spoiler here)

Downloaded Bonk's Revenge and Gunstar Heroes, played those a bit. Also a little StarFox64 (on the VC)... Starfox just isn't quite as good without the 64 controller, though. I mean the controller maps, sort of, but it seems it'd work better with the real thing.

So yeah. Lots of fun gaming goodness. And Tetris before I drift to sleep

Still have Fable to play and Jade Empire. (and all the other megamans!) Today I'm playing New Super Mario Bros. Beat level 6 and am now on level 8. Since I'm not a completist, I'm not particularly caring to go to level 7.

I mean... I'm at work, so of course I'm not playing video games... nope, not me...

Growing up in rural Wisconsin, I was exposed to fishing culture. Not a lot, but some of it.

One of the things I hated was the controversy over Native fishing rights. Some of the rednecks would spout shit like "Kill an Indian, save a fish." Needless to say, that really pissed me off.

Recently, I read an article (damnit, I can't find it now) that said that the practices of Native and white fishermen were quite similar. This, however, was not indicated in stereotypes by each group of the other. That is, white fishers thought that Indians were more likely to keep undersized fish instead of returning them, for example.

This doesn't excuse the mindset of these bigots. In fact, it's still a long way from what it should be in regards to Native rights. However, I can at least understand what they were thinking now when they say stupid shit like this. They really thought that Native fishing practices were unsustainable and greedy, and thus, they were taking all the fish over the white man's fish, or whatever.

The funny thing to me is that my stereotyping would be a more stewardship/respect based approach to fishing for American Indians, so I would've thought inversely for the situation. That is, I would expect the white fucks to be the ones to behave in this "unsportsmanlike" behavior. Now, whether or not people actually live up to these platitudes the institutions actually espouse is a whole other question. There's good and bad apples in the whole bunch. Overall, though, apparently, the two hunting/fishing cultures are similar, in wildlife management issues... supposedly.
