Hmmmm.
I was reading Slashdot and brief mention of a girl who's suing RIAA for using illegal methods to find her on the file-sharing networks.
They laughed it off, basically saying the arguments are shallow.
Now, what if someone designs an encrypted network(ie: freenet) but easier to use. This encryption should attempt to preserve privacy/hide the identity of the file-traders.
Now, what would happen if the RIAA decided to "hack" this network in order to catch file-traders.
Could one argue that they are "breaking the encryption/security measures of the network" and thus are in violation of the DMCA?
I know even if technically you could figure a way out to do this, I'm sure their phalanx of lawyers could easily discredit this method of defense, by saying "we were justified" but I doubt there's any sort of reverse-justification clause in the DMCA(ie: in order to protect your IP, you can attack someone elses IP) If they could then what the fuck is the purpose of the law. It would just be a vicious circle/gang-warfare.
I'm tired. I'm at work. I don't wanna be here. I'm just babysitting a printer, but it's better than having to bust my ass.
I just wanna go home.
whatever.
bye.

Date: 2003-09-03 05:58 pm (UTC)They're probably just trying to strike now while they have the time to put fear into people while they can. Funny enough, Sen. Coleman from MN is really against the RIAA in this matter. I never liked the dude before but I'm glad he's doing at least something right.
