Have you ever taken a look at Knopix. It's a bootable linux CD that does an amazing job of just finding all your hardware and just working. Windows was never so easy. Since it runs off of a CD, you can mount your drives (which it will find for you and yes even ntfs). If your on broadband w/ some kind of ethernet bridge or something, it will find your NIC and DHCP and addy and drop you right on the internet without any help from you. This should be enough to allow you to FTP your files to a safe place. Just to make things more amazing, you can surf in style w/ the latest kde etc. The amount of stuff on the CD is amazing. I guess it works out to be a 2G compressed filesystem. Anyway, a thought for next time. Also... You should consider using a partitioning scheme that allows you the opportunity to save your data to a seperate partition than the OS and programs. Then you can reinstall without wiping out your data.

-ray.

thanks for the tip... I was actually just thinking about knoppix(after I reinstalled windows) just so I can play with Linux again...(yeah, I'm a sucker for punishment)

I should really look into partitioning my drive. Again, thanks for the tip...
