When he does that little double-timey/speed up thing, what time signature is that? He does something odd with it, right? Just curious. It's kinda cool, I think :)

The whole piece is in common time, aka 4/4. The part where it seems to shift doesn't actually change time/ tempo, it's just filled with triplets, which are basically three notes filling up the space of one beat (IE - three eighth-notes taking the space of one quarter note; usually two eighths equal one quarter).

Here is a great explanation of it.

It's also swung quite a bit. I suspect if it was played straight it would have been easier to tell it was triplets. But yeah triplets over 4/4 is basically it.

Agreed. At first listen, it could have been taken as 9/8. The underlying meter was too solid though, and did not feel like compound triple.

I took it as 12/8 actually (triplets over 4/4). But otherwise I agree.

What I meant (and said) was, it could have been taken as a triple meter, not that I actually heard it as such.

Triplets are not the basis for 12/8 time, although I can see why they could be taken that way. It's splitting hairs, really. ~8)

BTW...I was in a horribly crabby mood earlier, so if any of this came off as terribly bitchy, I apologize. It's been a long week.

If you were, I certainly didn't take it as such. No worries.
