And what with all this terrorist stuff going on, I read that and first thought "What the fuck level of threat is amber going to be? Run for your lives, the worlds gonna end fo' sure!???"

*laughs* Nono Davies, the Amber Alert is for the missing children thingie. You know - hey, Mommy and Daddy X's kid is missing, and they have money and make a good headline and are pretty enough to put on tv, so let's alert the country to their missing kid, so drivers can focus even less on their driving and more on other cars to see if they can spot the evil bad guy monster who took this little kid. That's the Amber Alert.

And, according to ready.gov, the details of the "red" threat level means that anyone outside can be arrested - you are forced to stay inside your house and you basically have no rights to do anything. Sure do hope Bush tries pulling that come 2004, because I seem to recall that my house is the White House, just like everyone else's house. :)

Oh, I know that. I meant, my *first* reaction was "Amber Alert" Then after that, I realized what they were talking about. Don't worry, I'm not that stupid. I'm mildly up on current affairs:)
