Some students grumbled that the American appliances seemed more complicated than their ordinary ways of living. Why worry about cleaning a toilet, some refugees said aloud, when the bushes never need to be cleaned?

------- How true, and in some ways, how sad this article is. On one hand, it's good they're leaving the war-torn region, but they have an overly simplistic image of America. And yes, compared to what they have, it's much much better, but I fear the discrimination they will face when they come here. And second, the loss of their culture. It's sad. But if they are safe and free from harassment and violence, I think they're more concerned with that.
